How Often Should You Get a Mobile Roadworthy Certificate?

A valid roadworthy certificate will be needed every time the ownership of the car gets transferred into someone else’s name. This crucial document isn't optional—it's your green light for buying, selling, or re-registering any vehicle. Skip the certificate, and your automotive transaction comes to a complete stop.

Here are some of the circumstances where you'll need to obtain a Roadworthy Safety Certificate:

Selling your car:  A valid roadworthy certificate is required in Queensland to transfer ownership, whether you are selling privately or to a dealer.

How Long Is a Mobile Roadworthy Valid For?

Roadworthy Validity & Requirements

A mobile roadworthy certificate for a private seller is valid for 2 months or 2000 km, whichever occurs first. If either condition is met before you sell the car, the roadworthy certificate becomes invalid. You will need to obtain a new certificate before you can legally sell your car.

Roadworthy Validity & Inspection Guidelines

Licensed dealerships have up to 3 months or 1,000 km before the roadworthy certificate expires. After this period, you'll need a new roadworthy certificate and a complete inspection. Ensure you book your roadworthy inspection in advance to keep it valid.
